![]() They foolishly believed that the moral order imposed upon them by their parents was designed to control them and keep them from realizing their true potential instead of realizing the love their parents had for them in wishing to keep them from the harm these parents who had grown up during the privations of the Great Depression and lived through the horrors of World War II knew all too well existed in the world. In rebelling against the values of their parents, these children of the 1960s have become the very thing they rebelled against. These progressive socialists follow the teachings of atheist Karl Marx who famously called religion the opiate of the people designed to keep them compliant and accepting of their lot in a world ruled by wealthy capitalists. Now, fast forward to the present where the progressive socialists deny the existence of God through their worship of secular humanism which exhorts men to think that they are their own gods capable of saving themselves. ![]() They ignore the Word of God which plainly explains the folly of their thinking by proclaiming that belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the keeping of His commands are the basis for a righteous life upon which God will show mercy to welcome them into the Kingdom of Heaven. They content themselves with thinking their goodness or their good works will be counted in their favor when being judged worthy of entry into Heaven. Such is the way of the world that sinful men conceive to plot their elevation above their Creator as if such a thing were possible, and seek to trust in their own efforts to save themselves instead of placing their trust in God. In this, they sought to climb to heaven through their own devices instead of being obedient to God. Just as Adam had sought to make himself like God by eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, so too did these people seek to make themselves like God by reaching the heavens in an inappropriate manner. They then compounded their disobedience by resolving to build a tower to reach the heavens which would allow them to rival God. They resolved instead to build a city which would keep them together. The builders of the Tower of Babel showed their defiance against God by refusing to disperse and possess the lands of the earth as God had commanded. Once Adam became defiant to God through his disobedience in eating of the Tree of Knowledge, his descendants were also corrupted in sin and prone to disobedience. God has various means, and effectual ones, to baffle and defeat the projects of proud men that set themselves against Him, and particularly to divide them among themselves. ![]() Instead of making a showy display of thunder and lightning, God was able to accomplish His design in a very subtle way that forced the people into doing the very thing they sought to avoid. Rather, He resolved to confound their speech so that they would no longer be able to understand one another and would also not be able to help one another in their defiant enterprise.īy simply confounding their speech, God was able to accomplish His will to have the people disperse across the earth by forcing them to do the very thing they sought to avoid in building the city and tower in the first place. With patience and humility, He did not come down in a thunderous roar and strike down these sinful men, nor did He command the earth to swallow up them and their city. ![]() God’s efforts to bring them off from their project through His commands and admonitions had been in vain, so He resolved to take another course with them. When they did neither, God came down to inquire of their efforts before making judgement and reasoned that, in their obstinacy, now nothing will be restrained from them. God allowed the builders to continue in their work for a time in the hopes that they would eventually repent of their evil or lose interest in the enterprise. The builders of the city and tower expressed their disobedience to God on multiple levels through their defiance of His command to disperse and their proud intention to become their own god instead of showing obedience to God. These men, being of one language, instead disobeyed God by conspiring to urge one another on in the building of a city and a tower whose top might reach to heaven which would serve as an eternal memorial to themselves and allow them to be like the Most High as a rival to God. God has once again frustrated the efforts of proud and rebellious men to set themselves up as rivals to His power in their attempts to build a unified world order by mercifully exposing the folly of their ways and confounding their globalist designs.Ĭhapter 11 of the Book of Genesis relates the story of the Tower of Babel in which sinful men defiantly disobeyed God’s command to disperse and possess the lands of the earth.
